Dubnoff has had a fantastic start of our new year, the start of our 35th year serving students and families.  We have 57 students enrolled!!  We have expanded our Community Based Instructional Program and now accept students who have more challenges and are on the Spectrum. We hired a new fantastic Sped Teacher who started 7/5/22 with many years of experience who is leading this classroom.  Additionally we have hired 4 new staff from a sister school who closed in June.  These staff all have exceptional experience and have added a tremendous presence to our school program.  Two important LAUSD administrators visited our new program last week and were very impressed and excited about this program.  We have worked very closely with Glendale Unified who has been very instrumental in assisting us with opening this new class.  We are very excited about offering this non-diploma/real life/social skills class for these new students.

We have been at our new site since the middle of April.  We are very excited about being at this beautiful campus in Northridge/Porter Ranch.  It is a beautiful facility with great classrooms and beautiful surrounds.

We are in the process of utilizing our Workability Program this year.  We receive revenues from the state to place students in community jobs and pay these employers for the first 160 hours of work.  Last year we were able to place our students at our school to work because of Covid. We had a wonderful workability year placing 11 students on our campus.  These students did a variety of jobs including the following:  assisting with distributing breakfast and lunch, cleaning around campus, assisting with packing for our move, organizing books, curriculum, and materials, etc.  We employed more students and spent more on wages than any other year.  Our students earn minimum wage which is now $16.04 an hour.  We are excited about this New Year with the opportunity of placing at least 9 students in jobs out in the community.  One of these students will be working on campus as well.

We hired two new therapists this year and are very excited to have found them.  One is bi-lingual in Spanish and both have jumped into their roles quickly and are providing excellent counseling services.  Each therapist has either already contacted the parents or their students or will be contacting them soon.  Danielle and Adriana are a wonderful addition to our team and we welcome you!

At Dubnoff we have many positive reinforcers for our students.  Students earn up to $10 a week in cash for doing work, points, and up to another $10 a week for their behavior, level system, and earn gift cards to Target, McDonalds, Game Stop, etc.  Students have point sheets they take home daily which show how each student is doing hourly in each class, points for work and levels for behavior.  Students also earn raffle tickets throughout the day for getting caught at doing something positive.  Each classroom has a drawing and up to three students earn goodies at the end of the day, (soda, chips, and a candy).  If you student is on a special diet, please make sure we know so that we can provide appropriate treats.  Please ask your child daily to give you her/his point sheet for you to review with them.  If you sign it and it is returned, the student earns extra points!  Please reward your student for excellent work and behavior.  The students earn a daily percentage for behavior and we expect at least 67% or above.  We appreciate your following up with you daughter/son daily.

REPORT CARDS:  We send out report cards every 6 weeks.  The first report card term ends this Friday, 9/23 and report cards will be sent home by Friday 9/30.  Please review the report cards with your daughter/son.  Students with all A’s and B’s earn our high honor roll and those with a B average without any grade below a C- earn our regular honor roll.
